The Argentina Germany Quarter Final match may be one of the most exciting matches of the 2010 World Cup. Both teams came into the tournament as favorites and both teams have lived up to their hype. While Uruguay did not enter the 2010 World Cup, they have certainly proved that they should be. Uruguay will be entering this match with three wins and one draw, while Ghana will be coming in with two wins, a draw, and a loss. Ghana took down the US in the Round of 16 in order to advance and Uruguay beat out South Korea for the coveted spot. Uruguay’s recent performances along with their past resume may be telling of their future. With ten previous World Cup appearance and two titles Uruguay boasts experience over Ghana who has only made one previous appearance and hasn’t laid claim to a title. This is Uruguay’s first time in the Quarter Finals since 1970.
It is a safe bet that Uruguay will win this match and proceed to the Semi Finals where they will face the winner of the Argentina Germany match. The kickoff celebration concert begins at 2:30 p.m. ET on June 9, 2010.  Live action fittingly commences with the 9:30 a.m. ET match one pairing featuring homestanding South Africa and Mexico in a Group A pairing.  At 2:30 p.m.  Match two features another Group A pairing between France and Uruguay.  Beginning on June 12^th, there will be three matches each day through June 25^th.  The day’s first match will begin at 7:30 a.m. ET, the second match will be at 10:00 a.m. and the day’s final match will commence at 2:30 a.m.

The 32 teams are divided into eight Groups A-H.  In Stage One, each team in the group plays every other team in the same group one time.  On June 26^th the top two teams in each group advance to Stage Two, often called the knockout round.  In this round of sixteen, the advancing teams are designated as the top team or runner-up in their round or the second team in the round by a letter designation.

On June 26^th, the first match in Stage Two will feature teams 1A vs. team 2B.  There will be two Stage Two matches each day.  The first match will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the second match at 2:30 p.m.

Those who want to watch the World Cup live have many choices.  This year, the world’s biggest sporting event will be aired on live television on ESPN and ABC.  The final game will be played in Johannesburg and aired on ABC on July 11 at 2:30 p.m.  The semifinals will be played on July 6 and July 7 at 2:30 p.m. and aired live on ESPN.

If, like most of us, you will have to work during many of the games, you can still watch the World Cup online and enjoy live streaming on your computer.  There are several venues that are actively promoting their sites.  Remember there are just 30 days every four years to enjoy the games biggest spectacle.

Thirty two year old Midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura will be the glue of Japan in the match. As for Paraguay, twenty eight year old Forward Roque Santa Cruz will be their key player.

The US and Ghana will be battling for advancement into the World Cup Quarter Finals. Neither squad has ever claimed a World Cup title. The US has made seven World Cup appearances, while Ghana has only made one. The US will be entering the match with a two draws and a win in group play. The fifth game of Round of 16 will be played between Netherlands and Slovakia. Netherlands advanced out of Group E in first place, followed by Japan in second place. Advancing on to the Round of 16 behind the US from Group is England. Out of Group D, Germany advanced in first place followed by Ghana is second. In the Round of 16, Mexico and Argentina will be fighting for a birth into the Quarterfinals. Mexico came out of Group A in second place behind Uruguay, while Argentina swept Group B and advanced out at first place followed by South Korea in second place. The World Cup has been widdled down to the “sweet 16”. Uruguay and South Korea will be facing off, with the winner advancing on to the quarter finals. In the last match of Group C, the United States will be facing off against Algeria. The US will be coming into this match with 8 World Cup appearances, while Algeria will be coming in with just two. Brazil will be coming into their match with Portugal with almost five times more appearances in the World Cup. Brazil also boasts five titles, while Portugal does not have any. As far as World Cup experience goes, North Korea versus Ivory Coast is even- each with one World Cup appearance. Ivory Coast held out against the favored Portugal and walked away with a 0-0 draw. In their match against the much vaunted Brazil Ivory Coast managed to find the back on the net once but could not match the three goals that Brazil scored on them. The player to watch on Ivory Coast would have to be thirty two year old Forward Didier Drogba. He is great with the ball on the floor and is able to fire shots in with both his left and right. Leading their attack, twenty six year old Tese is notorious for his agility, air game, and quick shot. After their loss to Portugal North Korea may be a little demoralized and Ivory Coast may be able to take advantage of their state. It looks like Ivory Coast may walk away from this match with the “W”.

Spain will be entering its match with Chile with twelve World Cup appearances, while Chile will be entering with seven appearances. Chile currently sits on the top of Group H. With Chile’s wins and Spain’s potential the outcome of this game is one that will be difficult to predict. The twenty five year old is known for being fearless and relentless on defense. Switzerland boasts Alexander Frei. Frei is an all time record goal scorer for Switzerland. He is known for his tactical awareness and, obviously, his finishing abilities. Switzerland is favored to come out of this match up on top and will potentially advance out of bracket in second place.

Edinson Cavani broke down the right channel to send a looping cross to the far post, where Suarez headed home from close range to make it 1-0.

Nigeria, with just one point from their three matches, are heading for home. Nigeria continued to push forward as the half wore on, with Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi going close and Kanu and Yakubu Ayegbeni combining well in the advanced positions. The Koreans – who looked so organised in their first match – were getting pushed around and losing their shape as the half wound down. Uche nearly doubled his tally in the 36th minute, only to see his shot from distance slam off the upright to a groan from the crowd. The Asians, against the run of play, took full advantage and drew level with their first shot on goal, Lee Jung-Soo heading home while unmarked at the back post after a free-kick delivered by Ki Sung-Yueng seven minutes from the interval. ‘Yak’ was at the heart of the action, missing a sitter from six yards in the 66th minute.

Lionel Messi, lively from the start, demonstrated his threat as early as the tenth minute, riding the challenges of Konstantinos Kastouranis and Alexandros Tziolis, before eventually being stopped in his tracks by the outstretched leg of Sokratis Papastathoppoulos. Greece were defending in numbers in a bid to thwart their opponents, and were relying on long balls into Georgios Samaras in any bid to switch defence into attack. However, if Rehhagel’s side were slowly finding their feet – only the outstretched leg of Martin Demechelis brought an end to Samaras’s promising charge into the box 12 minutes in. If Greece were going to claw their way back into this game it was going to be through Samaras. Just two minutes into the second period, the Celtic forward was picked out with another long ball but, despite wriggling free of his markers, he could only flash his shot wide. The 77th minute found Demichelis’s goalbound header from an Angel Di Maria corner rebounded off Milito and back into the path of the Argentina defender, who gratefully smashed home a left-footed shot to give Maradona’s side the lead they had long threatened.
